Basketball

Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, typically consisting of five players each, compete to score points by shooting a ball through the opponent’s hoop. The hoop is mounted at a height of 10 feet (3.05 meters) above the ground. The game is played on a rectangular court, with a three-point line marking the boundaries for longer shots. Players can advance the ball by dribbling (bouncing it while running) or passing it to teammates. Points are scored by successfully shooting the ball through the hoop, with different point values assigned to shots taken from various distances.

Basketball is known for its fast-paced nature and requires skills such as shooting, dribbling, passing, and defensive tactics. It is governed by specific rules, often organized by leagues and associations, the most prominent being the National Basketball Association (NBA) in the United States. The sport is played globally, at various levels from amateur to professional, and features significant events such as the Olympic basketball tournament and the FIBA Basketball World Cup. Basketball not only emphasizes athletic ability and teamwork but also promotes strategic thinking and coordination among players.
